Description
Santenay Rouge "Champs Claude" Vieilles Vignes 2022 | Wine from Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils
The Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils, founded in the 1960s by Lucien Muzard, saw his sons Claude and Hervé join him in 1987 and 1990 respectively, after solid viticultural training and practical experiences in neighboring estates. They gradually ceased bulk sales to focus entirely on selling bottled wine from their 18 hectares of vineyards, composed of 80% reds and 20% whites. In 2019, Capucine, Claude's daughter, joined the family business, contributing to the development of new cuvées through a trading activity.
The Santenay Rouge "Champs Claude" Vieilles Vignes 2022 from Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils comes from a 270 m altitude terroir, neighboring the Morgeot of Chassagne, with an East exposure and a clay-marl soil. The 1.49-hectare plot, with vines over 70 years old, is pruned in cordon de royat style, the soil is plowed, the vines are disbudded, lifted, thinned, aerated, and hand-harvested. The grapes, 70% of which are destemmed, ferment with indigenous yeasts. After 18 to 20 days of maceration, the wine is aged in Burgundy barrels, 15 to 20% of which are new.
