The Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils, located in Santenay in the Côte de Beaune, was founded in the 1960s by Lucien Muzard. Today, his sons Claude and Hervé Muzard continue the family tradition, having gained solid winemaking experience. Since 1987 and 1990, respectively, they stopped bulk sales to focus on bottling their 18 hectares of vines, 80% of which are planted with Pinot Noir. In 2019, Capucine Muzard, Claude's daughter, joined the venture, bringing a touch of modernity and contributing to the development of new cuvées through a trading activity.

The Santenay Rouge 1er Cru "Maladière" 2022 comes from an exceptional terroir. This cru originates from a stony hillside facing southeast, providing ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are cultivated in a reasoned manner with grass cover to prevent soil erosion. The grapes are hand-harvested, with 70% destemming to promote a purer expression of the fruit. Vinification is carried out with indigenous yeasts, ensuring a natural fermentation that respects the terroir. After a maceration of 18 to 20 days, the wine is aged in Burgundy barrels, including 15 to 20% new barrels, as well as in large casks, for an optimal duration to refine the tannins and develop aromatic complexity.

The Santenay Rouge 1er Cru "Maladière" 2022 offers a beautiful deep ruby color. On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry mingle with subtle notes of undergrowth and spices. On the palate, it reveals a silky structure with fine and elegant tannins. The finish is long, with a lovely freshness and aromatic persistence marked by slightly woody and vanilla notes, inherited from barrel aging.

This Santenay 1er Cru pairs perfectly with grilled or sauced red meats, such as beef fillet or leg of lamb. It is also an excellent companion for mature cheeses like Comté or Reblochon. For fans of regional cuisine, it will enhance a coq au vin or a roasted poultry dish.
