Description

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanc "Abbaye de Morgeot" 2022 | Wine from Domaine Berthelemot

The Domaine Berthelemot, founded in 2006 by Brigitte Berthelemot, continues a family viticultural tradition marked by respect for the soil and the environment. Located in Meursault, at the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the estate spans 15 hectares, including prestigious appellations such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Pommard, and Beaune. Since the arrival of her son Thomas in 2017, the estate has experienced a new momentum, combining modernity with respect for ancestral methods. Certified organic since 2021, the estate is committed to sustainable viticulture and adheres to the principles of biodynamics.

The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanc "Abbaye de Morgeot" 2022 comes from a historic plot located at the place known as Abbaye de Morgeot, where the Cistercian monks of the Abbey of Maizières established an annex around the year 1150. The soil of the plot is rich in limestone marl, with a reddish hue due to iron oxides, resting on a subsoil of limestone debris dating from the Bathonian.
This 1er Cru is composed 100% of Chardonnay, the emblematic grape variety of the region. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in oak barrels. This wine reveals a bouquet of complex aromas of fresh fruits, white flowers, with subtle touches of honey. It is distinguished by its power, richness, and marked minerality, all perfectly balanced.

Visually, this wine displays a beautiful pale yellow color with golden highlights. On the nose, it reveals aromas of green apple, pear, and white flowers like acacia, accompanied by subtle notes of honey and roasted hazelnut. On the palate, the attack is straightforward, marked by a beautiful minerality, a balance between freshness and roundness, and a lingering finish with slightly lemony accents.

This Chassagne-Montrachet pairs perfectly with seafood, noble fish in sauce, or even roasted poultry. It also complements aged hard cheeses like Comté beautifully. For optimal tasting, serve it between 12 and 14°C. Decanting is recommended for young vintages.
