Description

Grain Pinot Rouge "Charrat" 2020 | Wine from Domaine Chappaz

The Grain Pinot Rouge "Charrat" 2020 from Domaine Chappaz is an emblematic wine of the Valais A.O.C, the fruit of biodynamic cultivation and an exceptional terroir. The vines, aged 20 to 35 years, are planted on the parcels of Charrat Champ Dury and Charrat Les Esserts, characterized by limestone scree soils. This wine is made 100% from Pinot Noir, a noble grape variety particularly well-suited to the sunny slopes of this region.

The harvest is done manually, ensuring a rigorous selection of grapes at optimal maturity. After complete destemming, the grape undergoes a 14-day maceration, allowing maximum extraction of flavors and color. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, thereby respecting the specificities of the terroir.

The wine is aged for 6 months in oak barrels that have been used for several wines, bringing a subtle complexity without overpowering the natural aromas of Pinot Noir. The wine is lightly filtered before bottling, with a very low addition of sulfur to preserve its natural integrity.

Domaine Chappaz, located in Valais, is renowned for its commitment to biodynamics and respect for the terroir. Founded by Marie-Thérèse Chappaz, this estate is a pillar of sustainable viticulture in Switzerland. The meticulous work in the vineyards and cellar allows for the production of authentic wines that reflect the diversity of the Valais terroirs. Each cuvée from the estate is a true exploration of this alpine terroir, where tradition and innovation come together.

The Grain Pinot Rouge "Charrat" 2020 is a delicate and structured wine, expressing all the finesse of Pinot Noir. Cultivated on the slopes of Charrat, it benefits from optimal sunshine and soils rich in limestone scree, giving the wine an exceptional minerality. Biodynamic winemaking preserves the characteristics of the terroir, delivering a wine with great aromatic purity and beautiful depth.

The Grain Pinot Rouge "Charrat" 2020 offers a complex nose with red fruit aromas like cherry and raspberry, accompanied by subtle spicy touches and undergrowth. On the palate, the wine is both elegant and powerful, with a beautiful tannic structure and a long, persistent finish. The minerality of the Charrat terroir is also evident, bringing freshness and balance.

This wine pairs perfectly with red meats, such as roast beef or duck breast. It also wonderfully accompanies aged cheeses like comté or reblochon. For a bolder pairing, try it with slightly spicy Asian cuisine dishes.
