Description
Bourgogne Rouge 2022 | Wine from Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils
The Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils, founded in the 1960s by Lucien Muzard, saw his sons Claude and Hervé join him in 1987 and 1990 respectively after solid viticultural training and practical experiences in neighboring domains. They gradually ceased bulk sales to focus entirely on selling bottles from their 18 hectares of vines, composed of 80% reds and 20% whites. In 2019, Capucine, Claude's daughter, joined the family business, contributing to the development of new cuvées through a trading activity.
The Bourgogne Rouge 2022 from Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils comes from vines located half in Santenay, at the base of the Maranges slope, and half near Chassagne-Montrachet. The vines grow on clay-limestone-marl soil. The soil is tilled, the vines are disbudded, raised, thinned, aired, and hand-harvested. During vinification, the grapes are never crushed, with 70% de-stemmed and 30% whole cluster. The alcoholic fermentation uses indigenous yeasts and the wine is lightly punched down during maceration. After 15 to 20 days, the wine is aged in Burgundy barrels, 15 to 20% of which are new, with some aging in vats.
