Domaine The Hilt, located in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA in California, is renowned for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines grown in extreme conditions. The estate’s vineyards, just 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean, are defined by powerful winds, a cool maritime climate, and poor soils, which force the vines to produce concentrated, high-quality fruit.

The estate consists of three main vineyards: Bentrock, Radian, and Puerta del Mar. The Radian Vineyard, the steepest of the three, reaches elevations of nearly 700 feet and is known for its rocky and diatomaceous soils, which offer excellent drainage. Grapes from this vineyard are known for their structure and concentration. Bentrock Vineyard, with its gently rolling hills and high altitude, produces balanced wines that retain natural acidity thanks to the cool breezes. Puerta del Mar, the closest vineyard to the coast, is home to both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and is also the site of the estate’s winery.

Under the direction of winemaker Matt Dees, each vineyard parcel is vinified separately to capture the unique characteristics of these exceptional sites. The estate’s wines are a testament to the diversity of Sta. Rita Hills, showcasing purity, tension, and elegance in every bottle.
