Description

This work has received the label of the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE). Soil degradation has a significant impact on air and water, as well as on our health. Aware of the increasing pressure exerted by humans on soils, the Ministry of Environment has implemented, since 1998, a research program on soil heritage management (Gessol). This work synthesizes the initial results obtained by the teams participating in this program. It provides new knowledge on the various types of degradation observed: erosion, compaction, contamination, loss of organic matter and biodiversity. It also proposes alternative soil management methods aimed at sustainably preserving their environmental functions. This text is intended for specialists in the field as well as for teachers, decision-makers, and soil resource managers. In partnership with Ademe.
