Description
Cornas Rouge "Brise Cailloux" 2020 | Wine from Domaine Matthieu Barret
The Domaine Matthieu Barret is nestled in the heart of the Northern Rhône region, where it produces wines that reflect a natural and respectful vision of viticulture. With an ongoing organic conversion, Matthieu Barret applies sustainable agriculture without chemical inputs to preserve the purity of the terroir. The wines from the domain, traditionally vinified, reflect a unique expertise, where nature and authenticity come first.
The Cornas Rouge "Brise Cailloux" 2020 is a tribute to the typical granitic terroir of Cornas, cultivated on degraded granite soils, known as "gore," and enriched by a clay-granite band. Combining vines averaging 40 years old, this wine captures the full intensity of the Syrah grape. Cultivated in renowned localities such as Genale, Mazards, Patronne, Arlettes, and Les Eygas, the "Brise Cailloux" offers a rich, vibrant, and unique profile.
This Cornas is the result of careful winemaking: fermentation with indigenous yeasts in a vertical press, and a three-week maceration at low temperature to preserve the authenticity of the aromas. The aging process, lasting 15 months, combines 400 to 500-liter foudres (70%) and ovoid tanks (30%), two types of containers allowing precise refinement of the wine. Bottling is done with tangential filtration and a low dose of sulfites to maintain its freshness.
On the palate, this wine reveals a lively acidity and a pronounced minerality. The aromatic intensity stands out with spicy notes and great drinkability. First in the selection of the domain's Cornas, the "Brise Cailloux" embodies a contemporary approach, ready to be enjoyed earlier than classic Cornas wines. It reaches its full potential after four years but can be savored between 2 and 12 years, depending on your preferences and patience.
This wine pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats, roasted lamb, saucy dishes, and aged cheeses. Perfect for enhancing a fine piece of game or a Provençal stew, it will delight lovers of spicy dishes.
