Description
Updated and expanded, this new version of the Small Pedology Lexicon now defines over 1200 specific terms and provides their equivalent in English. Only the most useful words from the French pedological vocabulary and those related to the contemporary French typological system (the Pedological Reference) have been selected. New entries related to soil contamination or current issues have been added, for example: phytoremediation, pedological engineering, biochar, geophysics, pedometry, models, carbon sequestration, enchytraeids, RMQS, etc. This lexicon does not have the "neutrality" of usual dictionaries: for some key sections, the author specifies and develops his conception of modern pedology, providing material for debate. It extends the author's previous works (Guide to soil analyses, 2000 - Guide for soil description, 2011) and encourages the reader - whether a soil specialist or not - to deepen their knowledge in pedology and apply it to concrete problems. Aimed particularly at students and teachers, this lexicon will also interest agro-pedologists, agronomists, foresters, geologists, geographers, archaeologists, land-use planners, environmentalists, landscapers, etc. Denis Baize, Ph.D., research director at INRA d'Orléans, specializes in general pedology, typology, and soil mapping. He is the facilitator and general coordinator of the Pedological Reference (AFES, Quae, 2008).
