Description
Special Issue on the Geniuses of Beaune, in connection with the exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Beaune.
The Museum of Fine Arts in Beaune is dedicating an exhibition to the natives or adoptive residents of Beaune who have contributed to the development and influence of the capital of Burgundy wines.
Through a thematic journey, the exhibition highlights the unique paths of more than twenty major historical figures linked to Beaune.
Artists, actresses, musicians, inventors, agronomists, politicians, and historians from the 18th to the 20th century are discussed through about a hundred objects,
drawn from the Beaune municipal collections, the Côte-d'Or departmental archives, and private collections.
Beyond famous names, the exhibition allows visitors to discover or rediscover the legacy of Beaune personalities who made their mark in their time through their commitment, talent, or innovations. Among the must-sees are mathematician Gaspard Monge, physiologist Etienne Jules Marey, painter Félix Ziem, actress Marie Favart... This retrospective, which cannot be exhaustive, thus honors some of those who have contributed to the development and influence of Beaune.
Paintings, sculptures, models, archival documents, or video excerpts are brought together to illustrate the lives and works of men and women from various backgrounds, sometimes famous, sometimes unknown, whose legacy has enriched our common heritage.
“Crossed Destinies” is also an opportunity for the City of Beaune to pay tribute to the Beaune philosopher, sociologist, and anthropologist Bruno Latour, who passed away in 2022, whose extensive archives have recently joined the municipal archives.
