Description
The relationships between wine brands and appellations of origin are becoming more complex. It appears that beyond the classic configuration of conflicts between these two legal categories, a clear trend of doctrinal osmosis is emerging in European law and beyond: trademark law serves as a "matrix" to provide concepts and principles for the protection of appellations of origin, while conversely, appellations of origin enrich the forms and doctrines of trademark law. In this way, the contributions of this work, taking into account the specificities of the wine sector, offer a fresh perspective on an issue whose dimensions have yet to be exhaustively examined. Théodore Georgopoulos is the director of the Wine & Law Program at the Faculty of Law in Reims, holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Wine Law, and president of the Georges Chappaz Institute of Vine and Wine in Champagne.
