Description
This work was born from a meeting. Between Pierre Galet, a globally renowned ampelographer known for his expertise in this field, Victor Pulliat, the only ampelographer of the 19th century worthy of the name, and the Editions Quatuor. It was chosen to reproduce, as it is, the comprehensive work that Victor Pulliat and Alphonse Mas devoted to 288 grape varieties, French or foreign, known or very rare, which they published between 1873 and 1879. This true encyclopedia, rich in anecdotes, flavors, and science, examines each grape variety from the perspective of its genealogy, history, climatology, cultivation, then extensively describes this grape variety (bud break, shoots, leaves, cluster, berries, skin, and pulp) and provides cultivation and winemaking advice. But to this remarkable work, which is part of our heritage, it was necessary to bring the scientific and current perspective of a specialist. This is why Pierre Galet wrote a 350-page ampelography treatise, solely dedicated to the hundred grape varieties cultivated in France: a treatise that is both scientific and practical, rich in all his experience, reflection, and numerous travels in vineyards around the world. A sumptuous set! Two sturdy volumes of 600 pages and 350 pages in the 170 x 245 format, printed on beautiful 120-gram matte-coated Centaure ivory paper, bound in full pearl gray cloth, with engraving on the spine, thread-sewn pages, and a bookmark, with a four-color label in a stamped design. All of this is inserted into a beautiful full pearl gray cloth box.
