Description
Nicolas Joly is renowned for producing some of the finest and most highly regarded wines in France at his Coulee de Serrant vineyard. By practicing the biodynamic method of agriculture, often described as 'premium organic', he is leading a movement to focus on the concept of terroir - the full expression and embodiment of a specific grape-growing region or appellation. Nowadays, even expensive wines, produced under strict regulations, can be affected by the use of pesticides and fertilizers, as well as manipulation in the cellar through techniques like osmosis and the addition of aromatic yeasts and enzymes. To counteract these trends, a new 'Charter of Quality', managed by organic and biodynamic winemakers, ensures that the appellation reflects its full, authentic character. To support this approach, biodynamic winegrowers like Joly employ special planting techniques and preparations that improve and revitalize the soil, harmonizing it with the influences of the sun, moon, and cosmos to integrate the vine into a rich and vibrant environment.
