The Château des Rontets has a long history behind it. Created at the beginning of the 19th century by Abbot Glaneur, it was bought by the Varambon family in 1850 and is now in the hands of Claire (4th generation) and her husband Fabio Montrasi. Rated 5* by the Bettane&Desseauve guide and ranked by la revue du vin de france among the areas with high potential, it is considered by many to be one of the best areas in Pouilly-Fuissé. Since 2005, the estate has been certified organic, with ploughing of the soil and harvesting by hand in small boxes to limit the damage of the grapes.

This 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé "Les Birbettes" from Domaine Château des Rontets comes from a clos whose vines are all well over sixty, The main characteristic of old vines is their ability to implement a kind of "regulatory system" that limits the influence of climatic conditions and allows regular growth during the vegetative season. In this way, the vine can reach the best ripening of the grapes. The bunches are always composed of small grapes, and their potential remains remarkably constant from one year to the next. The resulting wine expresses more purity and verticality and is marked by a saline imprint, which is in our opinion the clearest manifestation of minerality.

''Les Birbettes'' is a cuvée that begins to express itself (usually) fully from its third year, and which becomes more and more complex during its years of ageing in the bottle. The beautiful vintages of Birbettes can age from 10 to 15 years or more.

This very sunny 2020 vintage , which brings a lot of body and quality to this wine, needs to stay in the bottle a little longer before giving its full measure.
