The pruning of the vine is an art that requires specific skills, precision, and sensitivity towards the plant. The Pruning Manual of the Spur-Pruned Vine by Marco Simonit, published by L'Informatore Agrario, is an essential tool for anyone wishing to practice sustainable viticulture and ensure greater longevity for the vines.
As Carlo Petrini, founder of Slow Food, emphasizes in the preface:
"Thinking of continuing to talk about terroir and then having to uproot the vines after twenty years is a completely Italian absurdity."
The Simonit & Sirch Method is based on ancient principles, adapted to modern scientific research and codified into simple operational rules that ensure the well-being of the plant. This second volume focuses on the spur-pruned cordon, offering a clear and detailed overview of the techniques to be applied at each stage of the vine's life cycle.
The book is enriched with over 400 explanatory images, guiding the reader step by step through the various stages of pruning. Each section is clear, accessible, and structured to provide practical instructions for both professionals and enthusiasts.
Born in Gorizia, Marco Simonit has dedicated his life to viticulture. After ten years of experience as a technician at the Consorzio Vini Collio, he founded the Italian School of Vine Pruning and today leads the team of Grape Preparers, transmitting the Simonit & Sirch Method to numerous wineries across Europe. He is a lecturer at the ISVV of Bordeaux and a consultant for some of the most prestigious European wineries.
