Description

Permaculture in mountainous regions and challenging situations! Observing to adapt to any situation: From the most welcoming to the most difficult, each situation must first be observed, tested, and understood. This is how the first solutions emerge, leading to viable results. Sepp Holzer shows us how he was able to make the most of land that was initially unsuitable for agriculture, the mountains. In one of the coldest regions of Austria, his terrace and mound cultivation techniques, the installation of ponds (fish farming) and heat traps, the selection of plant varieties and livestock, ... have profoundly transformed the situation, creating a high level of unexpected production. Creating partnerships with nature: Sepp Holzer has developed his solutions over the past 40 years on his farm at Krameterhof, by appealing to both human ingenuity and a well-understood partnership with nature. This way, nature works for him and he works for nature. It's a win-win partnership. Whether it's the clever use of pigs to prepare the soil or the use of plant families to enrich the soil, there are many solutions to reduce the farmer's workload while producing high-quality goods, without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, whether in plains or mountains. Diversifying productions: Sepp Holzer's farm is also exemplary because it gives the farmer the ability to adapt to changes, setbacks, new needs, ... thanks to a wide variety of productions of vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, fish, cattle, pigs, cereals, ... This is also what gives strength to the vision. Sepp Hoizer has created one of the most important and successful permaculture farms in Europe. A committed permaculturist and educator, he enjoys sharing his rich hands-on experience. This is what he wanted to do with this work.
