Description
Formerly, the renewal of the vineyard was done at a rate of 2% per year, with most plots reaching the (respectable) age of 50 years without too much difficulty. This is no longer the case, due to many good or bad reasons. For instance, wood diseases, now untreated, are decimating the most sensitive grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, or chenin. Replanting is no longer done due to lack of time, soil maintenance tools, becoming faster, damage the vines which eventually perish, etc. Planting, a founding act, deserves careful consideration because it commits the winemaker for a very long time, directs their production, and requires significant financial and time investments. This work is done on the one hand to try to avoid mistakes in soil preparation work, as well as in the choice of plant material, and on the other hand to guide the winemaker in caring for the seedlings. It also includes information on the environment of the plots, understanding the concept of terroir, fertilization and its relationship with diseases, as well as vineyard irrigation. Enjoy reading.
