Description
Pesticides are now at the center of considerable environmental challenges. As early as 1999, the Ministry of Ecology implemented the research program "Assessment and Reduction of Risks Associated with Pesticide Use." Within this framework, 57 research projects were supported to increase knowledge of the risks and help stakeholders in the field implement actions to reduce them. This book presents the major advances of this program through four main themes: pesticide transfers and reducing environmental contamination, pesticide effects and reducing impacts on organisms and ecosystems, innovative agronomic practices to reduce pesticide use, and supporting stakeholders in reducing pesticide-related risks. Decision-makers, public policy makers, professionals in the agricultural sector, and environmental managers will find elements to assess the risks associated with the use of these products and to promote more pesticide-efficient agricultural practices. Teachers and students will have access to a synthesis of knowledge, enriched with numerous bibliographical references. Finally, the book identifies some scientific gaps in the issue and opens up discussion on future research avenues.
