Essential for any amateur or professional looking to explore the richness and complexity of Burgundy wines. This work, written by Camillo Favaro and Giampaolo Gravina, stands out for its detailed approach to this legendary wine region. Through an in-depth analysis of Burgundian appellations and climates, this book immerses you in the history and winemaking traditions that have made Burgundy famous.
The authors, with several years of experience in Burgundy, revisit the vineyards where the concept of terroir was born, exploring both emerging producers and the cult estates that have forged this region's global reputation. Among the 200 estates visited and the 800 wines examined, you will discover iconic names such as Domaine de La Romanée-Conti, Vincent Dauvissat, Lalou Bize-Leroy, Emmanuel Giboulot, Jean-Marc Roulot, and many others.
This 2018 edition, enriched and updated, includes integrated and expanded chapters, offering a true compass for navigating the diversity of Burgundy wines. Compared to the previous edition, this version now covers the entirety of Burgundy, from Chablis in the north, through the Côte d'Or, the Côte Chalonnaise, to the Mâconnais in the south. Additionally, the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and de Nuits are also highlighted.
The book follows a geographic structure from north to south, dividing the region into 13 groups based on territorial continuity. Each group is introduced with a concise description of the landscape and main characteristics of the appellations it encompasses. Following this, you will find a presentation of the visited estates, accompanied by a detailed description of the wines produced. The maps, drawn by Sylvain Pitiot and Jean-Charles Servant, clearly identify the different appellations.
Among the visited estates, renowned producers such as Thomas Pico, Arnaud Ente, Cécile Tremblay, and Benjamin Leroux reveal the secrets of their exceptional wines. This book thus guides you through the labyrinth of Burgundian wines, with precise and captivating descriptions that highlight the diversity and quality of local producers.
The idea for this book was born in 2007 when Camillo Favaro and the ArtevinoStudio team embarked on a journey through Burgundy. In 2012, a first edition of the book, titled Wines and Vineyards of Burgundy, was published with the collaboration of the famous Italian wine journalist Giampaolo Gravina. This new edition has been translated into English by renowned American writer Burton Anderson, assisted by Joanie Bonfiglio, a wine professional passionate about Italian and French wines.
