The Domaine Lafarge-Vial, located in the heart of Beaujolais, is a family venture led by Chantal, Frédéric, and their daughter Clotilde. Leveraging their experience at the family estate in Volnay, they acquired old vines in Fleurie and other prestigious appellations in 2014. Working in organic agriculture and biodynamics, the estate is distinguished by its environmentally respectful practices: soils plowed by horse, vines pruned in goblet style, and a Burgundian approach to winemaking adapted to Gamay. This philosophy gives rise to wines of great purity, rich in typicity and character.
The Chiroubles Red 2022 comes from a 0.35-hectare plot planted in 1960 on granitic soils, facing south and southeast. The Gamay expresses all its finesse and freshness here. The biodynamic practices and meticulous work in the cellar ensure a vinification that highlights the terroir. A maceration of 15 to 20% whole clusters brings complexity and structure, while the rest of the grapes are destemmed and carefully crushed. Aging for one year in oak barrels (228 and 350 liters) refines the aromas while preserving the freshness of the fruit.
From the first nose, the Chiroubles Red 2022 charms with its fresh red fruit aromas, particularly cherry and wild strawberry, accompanied by delicate floral notes of violet. On the palate, the attack is lively and fresh, with a beautiful structure and silky tannins. The harmony between fruit, minerality, and acidity makes it a balanced and flavorful wine, ideal for enjoying now while having an interesting aging potential.
