Carole and Julien Altaber took over Domaine Derain in 2016 (Dominique Derain's loyal right-hand men since 2002), brilliantly maintaining the "Derain touch". This signature is above all a conviction that wine passes through the terroirs and the respect of them through biodynamics for fresh, gourmet and digestible juices. All with little or no sulphur. Julien has also put a lot of thought into the ageing process, extending it to bring even more balance and complexity to the wines.

Since retiring, Dominique has kept himself busy – he is still in Burgundy every year for the vintage, but he also produces wines in Chile and other parts of France. This wine,
Dr'ain Dr'ain, is Dominique's collaboration with Tutti Fruitti Ananas. Tutti Frutti Ananas is another collaboration between the "gods" of the natural wine industry Manuel di Vecchi-Staraz (Vinyer de la Ruca), Zé Carvalho (La Cave des Nomades) and Joachim Roque (Domaine Carterole), to make the kind of wines they like to drink by the Mediterranean in Banyuls-sur-Mer.
The result: an extremely rare and juicy blend, it's mostly Grenache, with just a tiny amount of Syrah. It is made from old bush vines grown on schist soils, it is fermented in whole bunches for two weeks before being pressed in a concrete tank to mature for eight months. Unfiltered, unfined, no added sulphites. It is a true Mediterranean red in its lightest, sweetest and most floral form. It's tasty and incredibly indulgent too.
