Description
Volnay Rouge 1er Cru "Les Angles" 2020 | Wine from Domaine Louis Boillot
From a line of winemakers established in Volnay, Louis Boillot founded his own estate in 2003, after working at Domaine Lucien Boillot. With his wife Ghislaine Barthod, he vinifies his wines in Chambolle-Musigny, working with exceptional plots on the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Since 2019, his son Clément Boillot has been gradually taking over the estate, bringing a new dimension to the wines, with an exceptional fruit purity and better integrated tannins. The wines are aged in oak barrels for 15 to 18 months, then bottled without fining or filtration.
The Volnay 1er Cru "Les Angles" 2020 is made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape, grown on clay-limestone soils. This prestigious terroir gives the wine a great aromatic complexity and a silky structure. After meticulous manual harvesting, the grapes undergo a traditional vinification followed by aging in oak barrels to refine the texture and enrich the wine's aromas.
The dark purple color announces a wine of beautiful concentration. The nose is complex and elegant, revealing aromas of violet, redcurrant, ripe cherry, and delicate spicy notes. Over time, the bouquet evolves towards deeper nuances of game and cooked prune. On the palate, the attack is fresh and dynamic, followed by a balanced and harmonious structure, where velvety tannins provide a silky sensation. The finish is warm and persistent, leaving a fruity and slightly spicy imprint.
The Volnay Rouge 1er Cru "Les Angles" 2020 is a gastronomic wine that enhances the most refined dishes. It will pair perfectly with a roasted duck breast, where its fruity aromas will balance the richness of the meat. It is also ideal with a veal roast with wild mushrooms, where its delicate structure and velvety tannins will highlight the tenderness of the meat. Game lovers will appreciate its pairing with a hare stew with mild spices, revealing the wine's spicy nuances. Finally, for a cheese touch, it will perfectly match with an aged Brie de Meaux or a creamy Époisses, adding a beautiful complement to the wine's flavors.
The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, and then vinified with precision. After a traditional fermentation, the wine is aged for 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, part of which is new, to provide an elegant structure and aromatic depth. No fining or filtration is performed to preserve the purity of the fruit and the authentic expression of the terroir.
