PREFACE TO THE 5TH EDITION
This new edition involves numerous modifications to the text, which has been entirely reorganized. Presenting the vines in alphabetical order facilitates research, grouping rootstocks according to their genetic composition, and classifying them based on the breeders of new varieties, for direct producing hybrids. I aimed to give this book a more international dimension by indicating the countries where vines are cultivated and mentioning synonyms or commonly used names, sometimes incorrectly assigned. A great effort has been made in terms of illustrations, not only in black and white but mainly with the publication of 64 color plates, which I personally photographed to ensure ampelographic accuracy.
Some vines of secondary interest today, such as Jurançon blanc, Mérille, Meslier San Francis, and Plantón de Graisse, have been removed in favor of new table and wine grapes created by the INRA, which may interest grape growers in the near future.
To conclude, I have the pleasant duty of thanking Déhan printing house, which has taken care of all the printing material difficulties and continues to honor me with their trust.

PREFACE TO THE FRANCO-SPANISH EDITION
In this work, extracted from the 7th French edition of 1998, I only retained the main vines currently cultivated in France and around the world, to which I added the major Spanish vines that are also widely spread mainly in America.
