Thomas Boccon: The Artisan of Refined Meursault Wines
Introduction to Thomas Boccon
Thomas Boccon, a true Burgundian talent, was born in Dijon and has swiftly risen to prominence in the world of fine wines. His journey began in 2011 at the esteemed Domaine François Mikulski in Meursault, where he honed his craft while studying at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune. His passion for viticulture took him across the globe to New Zealand, followed by a stint at Domaine des Croix in France. However, it was at Domaine Mikulski where Thomas truly made his mark, gaining expertise in both viticulture and vinification, eventually taking on a supervisory role.
The Birth of Maison Thomas Boccon
In 2016, Thomas Boccon founded Maison Thomas Boccon, a micro-négociant venture, focusing on producing small-batch, high-quality wines. With an annual production of just 3,000 bottles, Thomas meticulously selects grapes of the highest caliber, ensuring that each bottle reflects his dedication to quality and his passion for winemaking.
Thomas Boccon's Winemaking Philosophy
Thomas Boccon’s wines are a testament to his meticulous approach and his deep understanding of the terroir. He specializes in three appellations, all crafted with the utmost care:
- Bourgogne Côte d’Or (Chardonnay)
- Meursault
- Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots
Thomas sources his grapes from vineyards that offer the perfect balance of ripeness, allowing him to produce wines that are both finely structured and aromatically pure. His wines are known for their freshness, precision, and subtle salinity, embodying the qualities of a true epicurean.
Vinification and Aging Process
Thomas Boccon employs a reasoned approach to viticulture, with grapes undergoing whole-bunch pressing followed by a light settling. The wines ferment and age in oak barrels for 12 months, with minimal use of new oak to preserve the wine's character. The final stage involves 4 to 6 months of aging in stainless steel tanks, with a light filtration before bottling, ensuring the wine's clarity and stability.
Discover the Collection
Thomas Boccon’s limited production wines are a must-try for connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike. His collection includes:
