Description
Etna Rosso "Pettinociarelle" 2020 from Domaine Statella
If Statella has risen in recent years to become one of the most qualitative areas of the Etna massif, it is above all thanks to the talent of its creator, Calogero Statella. A brilliant oenologist in charge of the mythical Tenuta delle Terre Nere estate for 10 years, he began his personal adventure in 2017 with the purchase of a hectare on one of the best terroirs of Etna - considered a grand cru - the "Pettinociarelle".
From its first vintage, the wines amaze with their silky texture and aromatic finesse, making us think of the sweetness of a Burgundian Pinot Noir married to the finesse of a Mediterranean Chateauneuf. With only 5000 bottles produced per year, Statella wines have been snapped up since the first vintage... It's an honor to share it with you!
This flagship cuvée of Calogero Statella comes from the very famous terroir on the slopes of Mount Etna: Pettinocciarelle. On this plot at an altitude of 750m, rich in iron oxide and volcanic substrate, Calogero combines the local grape varieties Nerello Mascalese (90% of the cuvée) and Nerello Cappuccio (10% remaining). This 2020 vintage is a new step forward led by this vigneron acclaimed by critics since its first vintage (2017), all in organic cultivation. The wine smells of cherry, blackberry, oregano and lavender, all framed by a mineral and smoky touch. A velvety and appetizing wine that amazes us with its finesse on the palate and its perfectly integrated tannins, almost velvety despite the harshness of the terroir. The finish is long, with Mediterranean notes. Great art!
