Description
Erbaluce di Caluso "Le Chiusure" 2021 of the Domaine Benito Favaro
Camillo Favaro, wine scholar and author of specialized books, inherited the family estate from his parents. A relatively new estate, as Camillo's parents founded it in 1992. The size remains modest, 5 ha, or about 18,000 bottles. Rare wines from a magnificent terroir located around the village of Piverone (in Piedmont, 50 km north of Turin), in the Caluso appellation. Camillo's wines are rare wines that are now courted by all connoisseurs. And for good reason, the greatest care is taken by the family to be at the level of this magnificent high-altitude terroir of Caluso, with its granite soil, its extreme slopes and an almost constant mountain breeze. The Favaro's reputation is based on their ma of the local grape variety, Erbaluce, one of the autochthonous and traditional white grape varieties of Piedmont. The corresponding appellation " Erbaluce di Caluso" is the first white appellation to have been created, in 1967. A grape variety that could be compared to the French Clairette. The Favaros cultivate it with passion, according to the precepts of "garage wine": the winery is located right next to the vines, the yields are low, the cultivation is organic and the vines are led in pergolas. By dint of hard work, the Favaro have become the reference for this grape variety!
The flagship wine of the Favaros, the family ma the white grape variety Erbaluce, an autochthonous grape variety of Piedmont and in particular of the Caluso region. On this high-altitude terroir, the "Chiusure" terroir is one of the most qualitative. The vines are south-facing, between 310 and 410m above sea level. The wine is aged on fine lees for 9 months.
A wine of splendid aroma with notes of white peach, white flowers and apricot. The mineral finesse on the finish concludes the whole with brio. A high-flying white!
