Description

Heptaméron avec Chardonnay, written by Gérard Oberlé and published by Grasset, is a contemporary homage to Marguerite de Navarre's Heptaméron. This collection of seven stories narrates vibrant tales of unique and endearing characters deeply rooted in the Morvan terroir. Among them, we find Chassignet and Mireille Larroque, recurring figures in Oberlé's universe.

The book opens with Monsieur Justin Galmiche, a mythomaniac scholar from Franche-Comté, who invents a glorious past and comments on Médiapart articles while his wife amuses herself with a supposed brother. Next, Volodia, a peculiar PhD student, intrudes into Chassignet's life before meeting a tragic end revealed by Naguib Mahfouz in Cairo.

The story La Vengeance de Suzie Mangold takes us to a book fair where a mysterious poisoning is averted by Chassignet's vigilance. Freux explores tales of avenging birds in the style of Hitchcock's Birds, featuring raptors and ravens.

In Chablis, Rémy Labarre, a failed writer, descends into madness by identifying with literary characters, ultimately succumbing to an excess of Chablis. Mme Mathivat tells the story of an unfaithful woman whose dreams of escape are shattered, only to discover the horrible truth about her husband. Finally, Le Roi Bondoufle is a light-hearted fantasy reminiscent of Pierre Bettencourt's Plaisirs du roi.

This book, with its flowing style and biting humor, is a real treat for lovers of literature, fine dining, and Chardonnay.
