Description
December 1940. Freshly arrived from New York, Véra Keller returns to the family estate she left five years earlier. Under the authority of a Weinführer charged by Hitler with supplying the Reich with fine and light bubbles, collaboration is established between Reims and Épernay. Revolted by Vichy France, courageous, insolent, Véra must confront blackmail, the lurking Gestapo, old enemies betting on her downfall, the loss of loved ones... Will the unexpected help of a young German who never believed in Nazi propaganda prevent Véra's terrible descent into hell?
"The family disaster was evident to her and could be summed up in a few words: her brother was imprisoned after attempting the life of a German; in retaliation, their champagne house had been seized. Her mother, sick, was gradually slipping into another world, often prostrate, sometimes demented, occasionally lucid. Three distinct events feeding off each other, three knocks on the door of misfortune."
Born in 1965, Frédéric Couderc has already published three novels, including the acclaimed "Que saignent les vignes du roi".
