Description
"Climbing the Vines in Burgundy" is the unique story of Alex Gambal, the first non-Frenchman to become the owner of a renowned vineyard in Burgundy, France. This book combines entertaining tales about the history of this world-famous region with the adventure of an American who managed to overcome cultural barriers to embark on an adventure and achieve success.
It all begins with a classic journey for Alex Gambal, who leaves the family real estate and parking business to follow his passion for wine and winemaking. In 1993, he moves to Beaune, France, with his wife and two children. For three years, he works with an exporter to promote and sell some of the oldest French family estates.
The Gambal family is welcomed into a community of distinguished winemakers. In 1997, Alex launches a boutique winery, initially purchasing grapes before eventually owning 30 acres of vineyards, including the legendary Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet.
This book is both a personal memoir and a business acumen story, offering a unique perspective on how an American became a full-fledged player in this exclusive field, while developing a deep respect for Burgundy, its unique winemakers, and the romance of its vineyards.
