Description

The global order that once granted European vineyards a central place is now experiencing profound upheavals, primarily due to the emergence or resurgence of vineyards that were recently considered secondary: Chile, South Africa, New Zealand. European hegemony is now being challenged, even though most prestigious wines continue to enjoy impressive success. Some producers, disregarding economic, cultural, and historical norms, are settling in unexpected or atypical locations to produce wines with a different taste. These changes are also driven by new consumers who, in addition to enjoying wine tasting, value aspects such as environmental protection or health (sustainable or organic wine consumption) or simply seek surprises (wine routes in Chile, Brazil). They consume differently, guided by influential media (blogs, films, manga). 150 original maps and infographics decrypt this new geopolitics of vineyards and wine, subject to economic, social, cultural, and climate-related uncertainties initiated and reinforced by globalization processes. Far from a division between wines from historically producing countries and New World wines, a new wine planet, mosaic-like and complex, is emerging today.
