Description

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanc "Morgeot" 2022 | Wine from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard

The Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard, based in Chassagne-Montrachet, is a renowned family-owned estate. Respectful of traditions, the estate is distinguished by its classic winemaking, where each wine is crafted with indigenous yeasts. The aging process is done in oak barrels, with particular attention to the proportion of new barrels, reaching 30-40% for Premier Crus and Grands Crus.

The Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 1er Cru-Morgeot 2022 is made from the Chardonnay grape variety, originating from the historic plot of La Grande Borne, a place rich in history. The name Morgeot derives from the Gaulish "Morga," which means border, marking the ancient boundary between the Beaunois and the Chalonnais. The soil of this plot is well-drained, shallow, scattered with small stones, and faces full southeast. With an area of 44 to 70 hectares planted in 1956, this terroir imparts a unique complexity to the wine. When young, it reveals a subtle minerality, but after a few years, it unveils its full power and aromatic richness.

The Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 1er Cru-Morgeot stands out for its minerality and full-bodied palate. Both powerful and balanced, it develops subtle aromas of citrus, white flowers, with elegant woody notes due to the oak barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is rich and ample, with a beautiful length.

This 1er Cru from Chassagne-Montrachet pairs perfectly with refined dishes such as fish in sauce (butter or lemon sauce), pan-seared scallops, creamy poultry, or even soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert.
