Description
Moët & Chandon: from Claude Moët to Bernard Arnault by Michel Refait traces the evolution of the famous champagne house from its beginnings in 1717. Claude Moët founded a company that has constantly evolved, expanding and innovating until it became an integral part of LVMH, the world leader in luxury products.
Thanks to the savings and entrepreneurial spirit of its heirs, Moët & Chandon acquired vineyards, dug cellars, and built industrial buildings. The house welcomed historical figures such as Napoleon I, the Tsar, Louis-Philippe, Napoleon III, George V, and the Kronprinz, helping to make champagne known around the world.
In 1868, well before labor laws, Moët & Chandon implemented labor regulations, a pension and provident fund for its employees, and defended grape producers against the demands of trading houses. Despite wars, crises, phylloxera, family disputes, and administrative complexities, the house remained a leader in the champagne trade.
Listed on the stock exchange in 1962, the house continued to develop in France and abroad. In 1987, agreements with the British brewer Guinness allowed Moët-Hennessy to further internationalize. The merger with Louis Vuitton-Malletier created LVMH, allowing Bernard Arnault to take control and make it the world's leading luxury products group at the beginning of the 21st century.
Michel Refait, through three hundred hours of interviews and rigorous research in the house's archives, has managed to tell this fascinating story, correct the legends, and authenticate the facts to make it a model of success.
