Description

"Pouilly-Fuissé, monograph of a vineyard" is a unique collective work, created under the direction of Jean-Pierre Sylla. This book highlights the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyard, located in the heart of the Mâconnais, addressing the multiple dimensions of this exceptional terroir: historical, economic, heritage, and cultural.

The scientific personalities, cultural figures, elected officials, and winegrowers who contributed to this book offer a comprehensive vision of this emblematic vineyard. Their contributions include scientific texts, personal reflections, professional testimonies, and artistic creations (photos, drawings, paintings, postcards). A total of 41 contributors collaborated to bring this project to life, each adding their own piece to the understanding of Pouilly-Fuissé.

Among the numerous contributions, Romain Cornin, a winemaker of the appellation, emphasizes the importance and richness of the content: "The amount of work and knowledge is enormous, organized by Mr. Sylla. Many facets are brought together and detailed: grape varieties, expertise, culture…". This book goes far beyond a simple description of a vineyard; it is a true immersion into the world of wine and wine culture.

Aurélie Cheveau, president of the ODG Pouilly-Fuissé, adds: "The controlled designation of origin is not just a quality product that meets a set of specifications. We must seek deeper origins, an ancestral and collective expertise, an interaction between the landscapes, the climate, the history, and the people who have shaped, over generations, through their experiences, the expression of these beautiful terroirs."

This second volume of the Cahiers de Solutré is a veritable treasure trove of information for anyone interested in the cultural, historical, and economic dimensions of Pouilly-Fuissé. As Aurélie Cheveau points out, "this book allows us to understand the richness of this vineyard through the testimonies of its actors."

The history of Pouilly-Fuissé dates back well before the 19th century. As early as 1832, André Julien, the first wine classifier, spoke of Pouilly-Fuissé as a wine with "mellowness, bouquet, and a lot of spirit." This wine has gained its reputation over time through tasting practices and competitions, allowing it to rival the prestigious Meursault and Montrachet.

Jean-Pierre Sylla, a member of the Academy of Mâcon, emphasizes that the vine is omnipresent in the history of the Mâconnais, to the point of blending with it. He adds: "Present, even omnipresent at all times, the vine blends with the history of the Mâconnais. To say that it constitutes a major economic and social fact." This book, with its rich illustrations and varied contributions, aims to be the living testimony of this wine history.

The Cahiers de Solutré are designed to perpetuate this History with a capital H, paying tribute to all those who have contributed to the greatness of the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyard.
