Description
Saint-Émilion, globally renowned for its wines, is also a city steeped in history. This book recounts the story of Saint-Émilion and its jurisdiction, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its rich history begins before the Roman presence, continues with the arrival of Saint Émilion, the construction of the monolithic church and the underground quarries, traverses the Revolution with a bang, witnesses the flourishing of prestigious châteaux... and thrives today more than ever. The photographs reveal the city and the surrounding landscapes in all seasons.Antoine Lebègue, historian, is a specialist in Bordeaux wines and vineyards, to which he has dedicated several works, including the Guide des vignobles de Bordeaux (Éditions Sud Ouest) and the Guide Hachette des vins. Philippe Roy works for the magazine Détours en France and for numerous wine châteaux. Coming from a family of winemakers, he lives in Sailans, in the Fronsadais region, and roams the vineyard in search of rare light and gestures.
