Description
When it comes to Bordeaux, a legendary wine region, the result is often sublime. Its wines have inspired countless tributes over the centuries, from the succinct critiques of Samuel Pepys to the poetic tasting notes of Michael Broadbent. On Bordeaux is an anthology of these writings, compiled from the best voices in the wine world, and organized around ten essential themes that define the essence of Bordeaux.
In her introduction, Jane Anson describes this collection as “a series of multi-layered, insightful, moving, and often very funny stories that celebrate, enlighten, and renew our understanding of Bordeaux.”
On Bordeaux includes various contributions, notably:
- Hugh Johnson, Fiona Beckett, and Baron Elie de Rothschild discuss the art of tasting Bordeaux: how to serve it, with which dishes, and in whose company.
- Mathieu Chadronnier, Christian Seely, and Joe Fattorini explore our current perception of claret.
- Ian Maxwell Campbell extols the virtues of the 1871 and 1875 vintages, the last great wines before the phylloxera plague.
- Fiona Morrison MW analyzes the spectacular rebound of Bordeaux and the revolutionary impact of the 1982 vintage.
- John Salvi, Bill Blatch, and Peter Vinding-Diers reveal the wines that are paving the way for the future of Bordeaux.
- Joe Fattorini gives us all the details on managing the legendary Médoc Marathon.
- Hugh Johnson pays tribute to the master of Bordeaux, Michael Broadbent.
You will also find contributions from other renowned experts such as Stephen Browett, Margaret Rand, James Lawther MW, Cyril Ray, Nicholas Faith, Gerald Asher, Neal Martin, David Peppercorn MW, Edmund Penning-Rowsell, Steven Spurrier, and many more.
