Description

Languedoc Rouge "Prieuré St-Jean de Bébian" 2019 | Wine from Domaine Saint-Jean de Bébian

The Domaine Saint-Jean de Bébian, located in Pézenas, is a true benchmark in the Languedoc vineyard. Founded in the 1st century under Emperor Augustus, this historic vineyard experienced a renaissance under the leadership of Alain Roux in the 1970s, with the planting of noble grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. In 2008, Alexander Pumpiansky took over the estate, and under the direction of Benoît Pontenier since 2015, the wines have gained in finesse, complexity, and freshness. Certified organic and biodynamic, the estate perfectly expresses the identity of the Languedoc terroir.

The Languedoc Rouge "Prieuré St-Jean de Bébian" 2019 is the result of a precise blend of 80% Grenache, sourced from massal selections of Château Rayas, and 20% Cinsault, from Château de Beaucastel. The vines, over 50 years old, are cultivated using biodynamic methods and the grapes are harvested at full maturity. Vinified without added sulfur and with indigenous yeasts, this wine expresses a rare purity and intensity. The aging process, carried out in oak barrels with minimal toasting, refines the structure and preserves the fruit aromas.

The color is a deep red, almost purple. On the nose, this wine reveals complex aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice, pepper, and cocoa. On the palate, it reveals a velvety texture, with a fine and elegant tannic framework. The flavors of sweet spices and black olives blend harmoniously, supported by perfectly integrated acidity. The finish is long, leaving a gourmet and persistent impression.

The Languedoc Rouge "Prieuré St-Jean de Bébian" 2019 is the ideal companion for rich and flavorful gourmet dishes. It enhances a herb-roasted rack of lamb, a beef stew, or a spice-stuffed pigeon. It also pairs wonderfully with mature cheeses like a sheep's milk Tomme or an aged Comté.
