Côte-Rôtie Rouge "Prélude" 2020 | Wine from Domaine Lafoy
Located in the prestigious region of Ampuis, at the heart of the Northern Rhône, Domaine Lafoy has established itself as a must-visit reference. Led by Gaëtan Lafoy, this estate brilliantly combines viticultural traditions with modern techniques. Each vintage is a tribute to its terroir, where the mastery of oak aging enhances wines that are both fresh and balanced.
The Côte-Rôtie Rouge "Prélude" 2020 is made from 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier, cultivated on mica-schist soils from the Leyat, Côte Blonde, Fongeant, La Brosse, and Le Truchet plots. After meticulous manual harvesting, the grapes undergo vinification with extended maceration to extract all the complexity. The 20-month aging in barrels (with 10% new) imparts subtle woody nuances and a silky texture.
At first glance, this wine reveals an intense and deep color. The expressive nose charms with aromas of black berries, violet, and a touch of spices, camphor, and menthol. On the palate, the balance is perfect between concentration and finesse. The delicate tannic structure supports a smooth texture, while the finish is distinguished by an elegant freshness, typical of the great wines of Côte-Rôtie.
The Côte-Rôtie "Prélude" 2020 is the ideal companion for grilled or sauced red meats, such as herb-crusted lamb rack or beef fillet Rossini. It also enhances slow-cooked dishes like coq au vin or Provençal stew. At the end of the meal, it pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses, such as Saint-Marcellin or 24-month Comté.
