Description
This Bourgogne Rouge Epineuil 2020 from Domaine Gruhier is a wine that expresses all the unique character of its Epineuil terroir, a village located in the Yonne, not far from Chablis. This red wine is produced from Pinot Noir, a noble grape variety that thrives perfectly on the clay-limestone soils of the Kimmeridgian, rich in marine fossils dating back to the Jurassic period.
The Domaine Gruhier, established at the Abbey of Petit Quincy in Epineuil, is run by Dominique Gruhier. This estate has a history dating back to 1212, a time when it served as a Cistercian cellar. Since 2003, the estate has converted to organic farming, an approach that fully respects the environment and enhances vineyard work. The vineyard spans 30 hectares, with vines averaging an age of 35 years.
The Bourgogne Rouge Epineuil 2020 is distinguished by its beautiful cherry color and its very aromatic nose, marked by notes of blackcurrant and rose petal. On the palate, this wine reveals great finesse, with a mouthwatering freshness and a saline finish that invites indulgence. The texture is subtle, giving way to aromas of stone cherry macerated in brandy and a slight hint of stem and aging.
This wine was aged in 228-liter oak barrels mainly from the Tronçais forest, with a particularity: no new barrels are used, which helps preserve the pure expression of the terroir and the fruit.
