Description
Brunello di Montalcino 2018 from Domaine La Magia
La Maggia is an organic winery located in Montalcino, a historic bastion of wine-growing Tuscany. Founded in 1974, the estate took off in the 80s thanks to its buyers, the Schwarz family. The estate now comprises 52 ha of vines, all classified as Brunello di Montalcino, the region's flagship appellation. The estate's vines have been certified organic since 2012 and recently biodynamic as well. Within the Brunello appellation, the vines of Sangiovese - the king grape variety of the region - are ideally located in the Val d'Orcia, on sandy and rocky soils, at an altitude of 450m. The Schwarz family strives to preserve old vines with an average age of 40 years. The estate is now managed by Fabian Schwarz, who has raised the estate among the highest quality in Brunello, by specifying the ageing in oak barrels (French) and by limiting the contribution of new barrels to the service of gourmet and joyful wines, and this in organic!
This Brunello di Montalcino 2018 is the jewel of La Maggia, a renowned estate in Montalcino, ideally located on the best plots of Brunello di Montalcino, at an altitude of 450m on sandy and rocky soils conducive to the proper maturation of the king grape variety: Sangiovese. Made from forty-year-old vines grown organically and biodynamically, this Brunello has been aged for 3 years in 500-litre French oak barrels. Here is a fine and elegant Brunello, far from some bodybuilt versions of the appellation. True to the grape variety, there are notes of cherries, blackcurrants and plums framed by fine tannins.
With a sincere and fluid expression with very few inputs, this gourmet and sapid juice is perfect for discovering a version of Brunello au naturel (a rare thing on the appellation)!
