Since 2013, I had the opportunity to photograph at Domaine des Roches Neuves, the flagship of Loire Valley wines, and much more... Taking the time to photograph over a period allows one to understand how long it takes to make a wine, to follow the plant cycle. Taking the time to photograph "Aux Roches Neuves" allowed me to capture the essence of the work of the winemaker Thierry Germain and his team.
The photographer and the winemaker have a unique relationship with time. The photographer captures an image, freezing it in a given moment, but paradoxically making it timeless. The winemaker works to the rhythm of the plant and the alchemy of winemaking. The winemaker must also be visionary (like the photographer). Their choices at any given moment can have repercussions for years to come. The winemaker must combine a sense of the vintage with a long-term vision.
This book is not intended to be an exhaustive manual. It is primarily a sensitive photographic testimony capturing the sensitive work of Domaine des Roches Neuves: biodynamics at work, the work of a group, the work of a family... Jérôme Paressant
