Description

This work celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Amorim Academy, an association supported by the Amorim Group, a Portuguese company and world leader in cork production. Comprised of wine industry personalities, the Amorim Academy awards a major prize each year to a scientific, legal, economic, or cultural academic work related to wine. A second prize is given to a particularly outstanding work for its innovative or timely nature. To mark its quarter-century milestone, the laureates of the Amorim Academy have been called upon: what perspectives do they have on their work and what have they contributed to oenology? What is their vision of the future of the wine world? Many of these laureates come from the University of Bordeaux 2, under the leadership originally of Professor Pascal Ribereau-Gayon and today of Professors Denis Dubourdieu, Gilles de Revel, and Pierre-Louis Teissedre. Their contributions are accompanied by the assessments of prominent witnesses, members or not of the Amorim Academy, including Michel Bettane, a journalist, Jocelyne Pérard, head of the UNESCO Chair "Culture and Tradition of Wine," Jean-Robert Piffe, member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, Catherine Pivot, an economics professor in Lyon, Jacques Puisais, founding president of the Amorim Academy, Robert Tinlot, honorary general manager of VOIV, Aubert de Villaine, president of the "Climates of Burgundy." This collection of texts offers a penetrating, albeit sometimes controversial, view of the academic activities of the researchers. It also covers a wide range of viticultural disciplines. Defined as the DNA of wine, this multidisciplinary work uniquely sheds light on the components surrounding a mythical beverage that has transcended all eras and cultures. It provides insightful reflections on a sector that is increasingly significant in the national economies of countries that are either discovering wine to produce or consume, and are integrating it into their culture.
