Description
"I am against the cult of personality. Whenever there has been a cult of personality, in any country, it has led to disasters. So why this kind of fame, this myth about me? I don't know, because there is no reason." - Pierre Overnoy
The Words of Pierre immerses us in the world of Pierre Overnoy, an extraordinary winemaker from Pupillin, in the Jura region. Through 14 interviews conducted during the winter of 2008-2009, Pierre shares his life, his methods, and his passion for natural viticulture.
As early as 1964, Pierre Overnoy foresaw the harmful effects of chemical herbicides on soils and natural yeasts. He then turned to gentle methods to cultivate his vines and vinify pure wines that express their terroir as authentically as possible. In 1984, he produced his first sulfur-free wine, marking an important milestone in his career.
The interviews cover various aspects of his life: his childhood, his friends, and his collaborators such as Jacques Néauport, Alain Chapel, and Henri Bouvret. Pierre speaks passionately about vine cultivation, wine aging, and his favorite grape varieties: savagnin, chardonnay, ploussard, and trousseau.
This book is a vivid and touching testament to a life dedicated to vines and wine. It reveals the struggles, achievements, and moments of reflection of Pierre Overnoy, while offering historical and personal anecdotes.
Illustrated with black and white and color photos, The Words of Pierre is a captivating work that will satisfy wine lovers and those who appreciate the art of living it represents. François Morel, editor-in-chief of the magazine Le Rouge & le Blanc, writes in his foreword: "Let us hear Pierre's words."
