3 - Natsuko's Sake | Akira Oze

While Natsuko has finally succeeded in her first harvest, against all odds, she realizes that the second one is an even greater challenge. Out of the 12 grains of Wonderful Dragon that she managed to cultivate with difficulty, she harvested over 3 kg that will be used for the second harvest, the one intended for the production of sake itself. But how will she manage this harvest, against the storms that break the ears, the pests that devour them, the exhausting work ahead? Her attempts to rally producers to her cause of organic farming do find some positive responses, but she too often encounters skepticism from those who uphold a definitively male tradition. Finally, Natsuko comes to grips with the economic reality of her choices. Should she accept being poor for having rejected intensive farming?
