The Wine of Dishonor. Somewhere, on the banks of the Rhine, around the year 800, a serf named Gervin and his son Lambert work hard in the fields under the benevolent protection of Lord Waldemar. Gervin and Lambert despise the vintner Baldrick, their neighbor, son, and grandson of Saxon slaves who were emancipated by Lord Waldemar. Once the tithe and taxes are paid, Baldrick is allowed to sell part of his harvest, while, as a serf, Gervin does not have the right to sell the fruit of his labor. Because of these perceived unjust privileges and because he refuses to let his daughter marry his son, Gervin and Lambert hate Baldrick. And from this hatred, the drama will unfold.
