After studying in the United States and a career in finance, Nicolas Joly took over the estate of Coulée de Serrant in 1976, acquired by his parents in the 1960s. Soon, he realized that this exceptional terroir was deteriorated by modern agriculture using pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. He discovered biodynamic agriculture in 1980 and converted his entire vineyard in 1984. An untiring pilgrim, he travels the world giving numerous lectures on this viticulture method. Despite encountering much skepticism, his influence has become considerable in the wine world. He founded the association "Soin de la Terre" and is the originator of a quality charter "For a full expression of the AOC" for the association "Renaissance des Appellations," which brings together more than 220 estates worldwide.
