Santenay Rouge "Vieille Vignes" 2022 | Wine from Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils

The Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils is one of the benchmarks of the Côte de Beaune, recognized for its respectful viticulture practices and wines of great finesse. Founded in the 1960s by Lucien Muzard, the estate covers 18 hectares, mainly planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Since the late 1980s, Claude and Hervé, Lucien's sons, have brought their expertise, followed by Capucine in 2019, enriching the production with new vintages.

The Santenay Rouge "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 comes from three plots located at 270 meters altitude, combining clay-marl and limestone soils. The vines, over 60 years old and pruned in cordon de royat style, benefit from careful management, including debudding and leaf thinning to promote optimal ripening of the grapes. The winemaking starts with 70% destemming and fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by controlled alcoholic fermentation.

Aging takes place for 15 to 20 days in Burgundy barrels, with 15 to 20% new barrels, giving the wine a beautiful aromatic complexity while preserving its purity.

This Santenay Rouge reveals a deep red color. On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruits, black cherry, and subtle hints of spices and underbrush emerge. On the palate, it is structured, with silky tannins and great length. The fruit notes harmoniously balance with slightly woody touches.

This wine pairs perfectly with roasted red meats, game birds, and platters of aged cheeses. It also goes very well with stewed poultry dishes.
