Description

The Côte Chalonnaise vineyard, which takes its name from its proximity to the town of Chalon-sur-Saône, extends over a strip of hillsides 35 kilometers long and approximately 7 kilometers wide, from Chagny to Sercy, in level of Tournus.

The 5 major Appellations that make it up: Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry and Montagny offer white and red wines with a strong personality, enjoying an excellent reputation.

This book is built around the 5 Appellations which are presented separately.

On the map of each one appear the names of the communes, the names of the Climats which benefit from the Premier Cru Appellation and the Lieux-dits which they encompass, and the names of the Climats which benefit from the Village Appellation. Each map is accompanied by detailed tables listing all the plots, Climats and localities, with their surface area and the color of the wine produced.

A Climat designates a precisely demarcated plot of vines, known by the same name since the Middle Ages and benefiting from specific geological and climatic conditions which, combined with the work of men, have given rise to an exceptional mosaic of hierarchical and world-renowned Crus. Climate” is a typically Burgundian term!

A locality has designated, since the creation of the Land Registry in France at the beginning of the 19th century, a piece of land whose traditional and often centuries-old name recalls a topographic, geological, geographical or historical particularity.

The 561 names of communes, Climats and localities which appear on the maps of the 5 Appellations arouse interest and curiosity. This is why, following the map and the plot tables of each Appellation, the Reader will find the origin, the history and the meaning of each of these names.

The originality of this work lies in the fact that it is a bilingual French-English edition and that all the names, no matter how complex, are studied.
