Description

An important story that aims to debunk the demonization of wine consumption, thanks to Dr. Jean-Pierre Rifler. While wine consumption is declining, adults' eating habits are shifting towards healthier, Mediterranean-style meals, and wine remains a social link. The current demonization of wine, along with other alcoholic beverages, makes even the most reasonable feel guilty. The pleasure of moderate wine consumption, which is far from being a means to indulge in addiction, becomes a flaw for the hygiene dictators. In this work, we will recall, with scientific evidence, the protective capacity of regular and moderate wine consumption. Firstly, in terms of primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention, then on cancer prevention, metabolic diseases such as diabetes, and the effects on aging, particularly its protective role in the onset of dementia. Our civilization has always been closely related to wine. Winemaking allows extraction and preservation thanks to alcohol. And it is again the alcohol in wine that allows our bodies to absorb antioxidant polyphenols that are beneficial to our health. Don't we say "cheers" when toasting? Alcohol was called "water of life" by European alchemists from the 10th century onwards who were seeking to create an elixir of immortality. So why demonize this elixir that has long been one of the only effective products in the pharmacopoeias of our ancestors?
