Description

Discover an exceptional heritage, wines born in confidential places, sometimes hidden from view, where an atmosphere conducive to refinement prevails. 27 walled vineyards open their doors to tell you the story, geography, and geology of such unique soils that give birth to great wines: Alsace, Champagne, Jura, Loire, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Rhône, Bordeaux.

Step to the other side of these walls steeped in history for a unique journey to the land of wine wonders.

A prestigious book on walled wines, renowned worldwide.

Walled wines are produced within a vineyard plot or an estate surrounded by walls that, according to the legal definition, could not be crossed on horseback.

They are exceptional wines, born in privileged places where a special atmosphere reigns. The finely crafted book presents a list of twenty-seven walled vineyards selected by the author. Each of these remarkable sites has been photographed. The owners and operators have shared the history of their estates, where magic happens. They recount the specificities and vintages of each plot, and reveal the know-how used to obtain these wines prized worldwide for their rarity and unique taste.

BENJAMIN DARREAU is a sommelier at Atelier de Joël Robuchon (Paris 7th). His lifelong passion for wines produced in walled vineyards led him to envision this book. He introduces us to another dimension of wine, more sensitive and spiritual, unveiling, through inspired tasting notes, the soul and unique strength of these wines from walled vineyards.

PHILIPPE TOINARD, editor-in-chief of the magazines 180°C and 12°5 and gastronomic columnist, shares all his knowledge of wines from walled vineyards.

THIBAUT VOISIN, photographer, captured the striking shots of these walled vineyards.
