Description
The Odyssey of Greek wines is a Homeric journey into the world of Greek wines, ancient and contemporary. Mythology, symbolism, and rituals of ancient wine are evoked, followed by a Dionysian stroll through its tumultuous history, spanning the Neolithic, Minoan, Mycenaean, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Byzantine, Ottoman occupation, during and after the revolution of 1821 up to the present day. The epic continues with a tour of ancient winemakers and their customers: wine production, preservation, transportation, consumption, prohibitions, and rules are revealed. This journey then leads to the modern revival of Greek wine with the encounter of around fifty winemakers committed to organic viticulture, their history, myths, and their favorite vintages. And to conclude this journey to the land of Hellenic wine? A banquet, of course, featuring French cuisine paired with Greek wines!
